Happy Birthday DeForest Kelly
Jan. 20th, 2010 12:42 amIf i could choose a doctor if i needed urgent medical attention then it would have to be Dr Watson or Dr Leonard McCoy. Deforest Kelly played Dr McCoy in Star Trek and the subsquent films. Out of all the Doctors in the Star Trek Universe, he was my favourite. De Forest Kelly was a very complex man, kind, compassionate and had a deep respect for animals. He also had deep relgious convictions as well having come from a background in which his Father was a Baptist Minister. I suspect he and Jeremy would have got on really well had they met. I would very much recommend From Sawdust To Stardust as an excellent book to read if you want to read more about him.

Very few books make me cry. Linda Pritchard's On The Wings of Paradise is one of them and From Sawdust to Stardust is another. I burst into tears at the end of the book with the moving account of his death in which the ring worn by his father fell off his own finger shortly before he died after a brave battle with cancer in June 1999. You can see him wear the ring on set as Dr McCoy :)
Today is the anniversary of his birthday. So to celebrate this wonderful occasion i have dedicated this entry to him and raise a glass of Georgia's Mint Juelip to him.
Happy Birthday DeForest Kelly !!!
