HTC Desire Thoughts
Jun. 9th, 2010 04:06 pmWell it has been about a fortnight now since i managed to wangle a free HTC Desire on upgrade. So i thought i would post my thoughts on it thus far. To begin with here is a picture of my mobile which i have copied from the official HTC website http://www.htc.com/www/product/desire/specification.html
The phone feels very snug in my hand. First impressions when i switched it on for the first time was oooh, fast boot up and then cor! bright screen! And it is. Very bright indeed. I have spent some time playign with my phone as i have always used windows mobile. but decided to give Andriod a go. After all it is all the rage at the moment! I like the way you can design your own home screen. I also adore the background images, they are all animated! I adore that! I have also used an animated anolougue style clcok which is easy to read, instead of the digital version as you can see in the picture above. The sound quality on the phone is very good. When i made the first phone call on it i able to hesr very clearly on it. And the ringing tone is loud and crisp as well. Items out of the box included headphones and manuals. But to my irritation there was no phone pouch or protective cover. So i am using my ipod pouch for now.
Ok software. I have had alot of fun playing with the andriod marketplace and my favourite applications or apps as they are generally known are as follows, barcode scanner (i can scan a barcode of something, say a book and it can gives me reviews and prices!) BBC News, Sky News, Google Eartth (this is a must have) a starbucks locator! and a tricorder app ! Yes you heard right. it is an actual working tricorder from Star Trek! It does measure acoustric sound levels in a room, and gives you solar updates! I love it. Oh and a live trasin times app too. Of course i also have facebook, twitter apps as well which came with the mobile. I also have yahoo messenger and google talk as well. Ringtones i have downloaded from the apps store include good old Frank Sinatra singing My Way! .
My only criticisim is with HTC sync. I am very dissapointed by that. It is not easy to transfer pictures from my PC to my mobile. I have yet to tansfer my family photos. That's what i want on my mobile really. It gives me great comfort to have my Mother's picture with me. So i have to try and sort that out this week. And battery power. it only lasts a day. I have to keep a charger with me. Not happy about that.
Overall though i love the new mobile! Still takes getting used to though. But that is part of the fun of having a new gadget! :)
